Book Donation Guidelines

The Friends of Vancouver Community Library (FOVCL) is committed to supporting the library with various book sales.

Your Donations Make a Big Difference

We appreciate the books you have donated over the years. Over the years we have been asked as to what books can be donated so we can keep selling them and supporting our library. So here is a list of the guidelines:

YES we want these, please!
  • Gently-used adult and children's books
  • Gently-used paperbacks and hard covers
  • DVDs, audiobooks
  • Advance Reader Copies of books - these are given away at community events
  • Cookbooks? Former library books? Yes, those are books!
  • Recently released travel books (1-5 years old)
  • Space is limited, donations are limited to up to 25 books in the BookNook shop
NO not these books, please!
  • Books that are musty, moldy, soiled, liquid-damaged, broken, etc.
  • Books that are highlighted or marked-up
  • Textbooks
  • Encyclopedia sets
  • VHS, music cassettes

Four Ways to Donate Books

  • More than 25 sellable books? Due to limited space at the Booknook, please arrange to donate them at our Book Bungalow.   
  • Up to 100 sellable books can be donated at the Book Bungalow by appointment. On your scheduled day, bring the books to the Book Bungalow. There's an entrance near a ramp, and a book cart is available for assistance.  
  • Estate or special collections can also be donated using the above guidelines. Please follow the same process for larger donations.
