It's hard to believe it now with Apple the most profitable company in the history of the world, having sold 243 million iOS devices and 19 million Macintosh computers in 2014, but life at Apple wasn't always so sweet and delicious. Back when the Mac was born, Apple was struggling to stay alive and some were quoted as saying that "it is all over but the crying." Guy was a real believer in the Macintosh, the first computer evangelist and inventor of the term The Art Of Guerilla Management. Guy is still very active and vocal about his passions. In 1989 Guy Kawasaki published his book, The Macintosh Way documenting the trials and tribulations of his time at Apple trying to make the Mac a viable alternative to the IBM PC. We have a copy in the Booknook in the Reference section.

Saturday, April 18 10:30 am-4 pm Sunday, April 19 12 pm-4 pm -- All Books are $1.00 Location: Columbia Room Vancouver Community Library 901 C Street Vancouver, WA. We have a copy of the very popular book by Chris Gardner, The Pursuit Of Happyness, intentionally misspelled in case you didn't notice. His book was made into a movie starring Will Smith. With a wife and son, Chris struggles to make ends meet selling a bone density scanner that is slightly better than the current version. He eventually loses his wife, his apartment, everything except his son and ends up camped out in a subway bathroom. Then he sees a guy driving a Ferrari and asks him what he does for a living that allows him to own such a car. The guy tells him he trades stocks. Chris then enrolls himself in a training program at a local stockbroker. Next thing you know, he is making millions of dollars, starting his own trading firm and eventually sells it in a multimillion dollar deal. He has given millions in charity and taught thousands of people how to pursue their own path to happiness. Locally Chris has appeared on the Lars Larson show to pass on his message of hope to all of us, who at sometime, need to know that there is a way out of a bad situation.
The old TV series Batman contains some real gems. In 1966 the writers of the TV series created a new character that had not appeared in the Batman comic series. Bookworm played by beloved actor Roddy McDowall was created specifically for National Reading Week in April 1966 to encourage reading. Note the reading light integrated into Bookworm's hat. Very clever costume choice!
We have a lot of Janet Evanovich novels on sale at the Booknook. This number one New York Times and Amazon best selling author started her writing career under the pen name Steffie Hall with short romance novels. Then she created the female bounty hunter Stephanie Plum, an unemployed lingerie salesperson who needed to find work doing something else. Bounty hunting is a big departure from selling underwear! Come pick up one of these books for only a buck at the Booknook today! |
