We at the Vancouver Community Library have to say goodbye to a good friend and long time volunteer, Nora Landers. Nora retired from the Federal Government 20 years ago and took up volunteering soon thereafter. She put a lot of effort into making Friends book sales a success for almost 20 years. Patrons who frequent the library on Tuesdays may remember Nora working the 11AM to 2PM shift at the Booknook along with Paula. They were an inseparable pair. After Nora suffered a stroke in 2014, she returned to the Booknook to help Paula run the show and strike up conversations with patrons who really enjoyed chatting with Nora. Services will be held Sunday the 21st at 3:00PM at Evergreen Memorial. She will be missed terribly. Thanks for everything Nora.

Some may not know that Nora first started as an FVRL volunteer in what we called the "Business Office" at that time. It was in the basement below the old Vancouver library on Mill Plain (which is now headquarters). She helped with mailings, writing thank you notes for the Foundation in the early days and lots of office projects. She then also became involved with the Friends after I encouraged her to help with a book sale. She always had a great love for collecting books and this was awesome for her (book shopping while also helping)! She has been an active member for many years now and has also recruited many family members to help as well. And for the last few years has also been a regular worker in the Vancouver Library Book Nook. Nora you WILL be greatly missed!!! Enjoy many wonderful books in the hereafter! Nora always had a smile and a hello (or goodbye) as I passed the Booknook on my way to or from our English Conversation Circle. A delightful, stalwart Friend has left us and we are deeply indebted to her for years and years of service to our library community. RIP, Nora.

What sad news. I met Nora a couple of times on Tuesdays. She seemed to enjoy helping at the Booknook.

Nora I will surely miss you - at least you were able to come back for a while following recovery time from your stroke. Your cheerful smile and unique personality were such a great draw to many of our regulars at the Nook. Even little kiddos would benefit as you always wanted to read and look thru the young children's books so you could tell them what the book was about.. Civil War buffs could always count on a good conversation with you as that was one of your favorite subjects. Rest in peace dear one. Paula, Nook partner.
